Before we start this round, let's review the rules and regulations since there was some confusion in the 1st round. THERE ARE SOME CHANGES, so please read through them all fully.(changes/updates are bolded) Because round one is finished, there will be NO NEW ENTRANTS allowed. The begging to be added is still permitted.

  1. All games will be 3-card matches. You can choose from a random selection of cards or use your own pre-made decks. Your choice. Your opponent may also choose to use a random deck, or one of their own pre-made decks.
  2. To play a match, check the chart (below) to see who your opponent is. Then simply greet them in chat and decide when you want to play out your match. Please whisper your opponent if you have trouble finding them in chat to set up a good time to play.
  3. During the match, record how many of your opponents cards you kill, and how many of your cards are killed. This is needed when reporting match results.
  4. When the match is over, one of you will make a comment in this post with the basic match details. These will include who won, who lost, and how many cards each of you killed. If you choose to include more detail of what went on in your match, please feel free to include the blow-by-blow details!! We lieks us some stories!
  5. Limited trash-talking is permitted, but if the other person says stop you stop immediately. Harassing your opponent beyond that point will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament. If you plan to trash-talk, keep it clean and respectful.
  6. Anyone caught H4xx0rz1ng a game will be immediately disqualified from the tournament, and reported to the admins.
  7. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD CONNECTION BEFORE STARTING A MATCH. A match lost to a timeout or disconnect will still count as a loss to you. There will be no do-overs.
  8. Ties are acceptable in this portion of the tournament. However, if you and your opponent both agree to a rematch to determine a clear winner, that is acceptable. However re-playing a decided match is not.
  9. If you have trouble finding your opponent online, PLEASE whisper me your desire to change opponents (for this reason only). Don't just pick someone else from the list and square off, then tell me about it later. I Check my whispers regularly, so I will get back to you soon.
  10. Matches are scored in the following manner. Win = 2 points. Tie = 1 point. 1 additional point is added for each card you kill. This will be used later when seeding the brackets for the single-elimination playoffs.
  11. Any discrepancies or disagreement should be brought before me (Tarlanon) for arbitration. Whisper my Kong profile or catch me in chat if you need to discuss something.
  12. This tournament will consist of a 3 round qualifier (currently in round 2) followed which will seed a single-elimination playoff round. Seeding for the playoffs will be based on total points, then by Skill rank if there is a tie.
  13. If there are any questions about a match, the tournament, it's rules, etc. PLEASE whisper my kong profile with any questions. I check them fairly regularly, so I will get back to you soon.
Good luck!

Acrony night was a raging success!!

Well, Sloths 1st official Acrony night was a complete success! MANY of the Sloth regs were able to attend, and even a few from other rooms snuck in to enjoy our good time. I think at it's height we had 12 people in there, coming up with some pretty spectacularly crafty acronyms to the letters that were spawned. I recall openly LOLing at a number of points during the evening. For anyone interesting in reading the shenanigans that ensued, you can view it all here.

But in the end, there could be only one...While Ceru's brief visit was full of pwnage, and Zil was *always* in contention, in the end TheDarkMuse's Acronyms reigned supreme! Kongrats TDM! Wear your custom designed Acrony Avvy with pride!

The Tale of Woe (AKA, Zil_'s New Name)

A terrible thing happened on Monday, January 19th. While Zil was wondering the wilds of Kong, simply trying to do her modly duty and protect the innocent chatters of the world, Zil was ambushed. A conglomerate of evildoers from other jealous rooms snuck up behind our beloved heroine and attacked. Zil fought valiantly, slinging her goo as fast as she could. One by one, the trolls were consumed, the list of bans grew, but Zil was slowly being overwhelmed. After many hours of battle, Zil was finally overcome by the impossible odds, and fell to the blade of one of the trolls. Zil was wounded! She banned the offender, and tried to limp away, seeking the cover of the Van. She new that there would be other mods there, reinforcements to aid her in this impossible struggle. The trolls new this too, however, and stepped up their efforts to bring down the mighty Sloth. Agonizingly slow, Zil grew closer and closer to her target, banning as she went. But her limp was slowing her down too much, she feared she would not make it in time, that the wave of trolls would crush her. In a last ditch effort for survival, Zil dredged up every last bit of strength she could muster, and dashed for the door. She leaped through the door to safety, but at the last second, a troll reached her, and hacked off her tail.

Now Zil_ is left scarred, and in need of our support. Her name has been changed, but she is still the same person. Our friend, our owner, our Zil_. So be not saddened by her makeover, but instead rejoice that she survived this ordeal, and managed to ban so many of the enemy as went.

The Three Line ..er.. Thang

I have been asked about, and am told other Sloth mods and regs have had to defend in their modcalls or wanderings.. the Three Line Thang. So let me explain here the philosophy behind it so that all may know, and hopefully fewer people will freak out about it.
--
The Three Line Thang: Sloths are anti-energetic. If there are more than three consecutive chat entries from a single user before another user speaks the offending user may be beaten with a wet noodle and teased mercilessly depending on Mod discretion. Three is fine. Four crosses the line.
--
The Three Line Thang was created when I was newly modded and we had a few clueless spazzes in the room who needed clearer guidance. (And I needed some way to draw a line.) I never imagined it would live on so long. The regulars adore it. They share it with everyone who comes in. It keeps chat at a readable pace, and encourages folks to be a bit more thoughtful about what they say and how they say it. It also allows the room some control on who gets to ramble - if what you are saying is something they like - they will respond. If it isn't - they will all be quiet - leaving you stranded on the third line. That said - the only time I have ever silenced someone is when they were spamming up a storm or are pushing the line intentionally to antagonize the room. Mod discretion is a key part. :) So while there are those who hear it and freak out - it really isnt as bad as it sounds. Has become a rather useful tool really. The room polices it far more than the mods do. And it has become a key part of what makes Sloth Sloth!

Better Know a Sloth! (Part 2)

Well, in my complete and utter lack of any ideas for this blog, I decided that I'll try to get myself off my butt and make some more questionnaires in order to help us all better to get to know each other as fellow sloths. In case you didn't read and/or respond the the original one, please do so here.

1)If you could use the force, what kind of things would you use it for? (Lets keep this creative and non-violent)
2)If you had the ability, means, and motivation to make an epic flash game, what would it be about?
3)If forced to choose between the two, would you sell your body, or your soul? (The belief that souls don't exist limits you to the former, so tough luck all you non-spiritualists!)
4)Taco bell, KFC, or Panda Express? (Sorry to anyone who doesn't have any or all of these..just pick as best you can :P)
5)If you could only choose three types of instruments to create a band, orchestra, etc. What would they be? (Choose between stringed, brass, woodwinds, percussion, and voices.)
6)What is you least favorite kind of "game" on Kongregate?
7)If you could have any color of non-fading, non-greying hair (unless you wanted it to of course) what would that color be?
8)Are there any music albums you are anticipating this year? If so, which one(s)?
9)If Sloth made a shirt, would you buy it? Tell the truth now! >.>
10)Tell us something random about yourself!

Flapping in the breeze...

What better way to ring in the new year, but with a new blog post! =D

A while ago (as Zil often enjoys reminding me), I had the distinct honour of sitting down with the current owner of our beloved room on Kongregate, Sloth. That's right, I got to sit down and ask a few questions of the legendary and talented ZilFlap herself! With the room aglow with her subtle radiance, I set about my task of learning as much about this wonderful person as I could, and now I have the distinct pleasure of being able to share some of that experience with all of you. So without further adieu, I give you Zil :

1. When/How did you discover Kongregate? What kept you coming back for more?

Feb. '08. I was game hunting, and I found Desktop Tower Defense. The next time I searched it - it sent me to Kongregate. Became obsessed with the game, and then discovered I could win achievements! Had to sign up. Although, I couldn't actually GET the badges for DTD! So my first badges are the easy on Fancy Pants and then the Pillage the Village set. (I still can't get the stinky medium and hard badges on DTD.)

2. When did you/How did you come to find Sloth, and make it your home?

Sloth was the room I was put in, and I thought the name fit. It was a sad, dead place back then. Slowly conversations started with "Does anyone know how to .." and then blossomed into a deadly combination of competition and encouragement between me, Visitant, SgtDroopy, and Galexan. (and a few others who sadly have since pretty much faded from Kong.) I was totally hooked! No way was I going to fall behind the guys. :)

We worked on badges and leveling up together - sharing tips and hints. They almost always got them before me, but every now and then I could scoop them. We were on the most at the same time, (and were the chattiest) but looking back through my fans list there are a lot of other people who more quietly or intermittently have hung around since those days!

That is how Sloth became my online home. Sloth had a few other steps on the way to me become its owner. Back those days we were a Jim Greer room. Not owned by anyone, and for about 5 months we didn't even know moderators existed! The room moderated itself through the power of the mass mute and sarcastic wit. Then one day our resident troll (who has since reformed and become part of our community - yay!) inspired a non-regular who had been stuck in Sloth to call a mod. It was a revelation! The Kong world beyond Sloth and ability to do something more than just mute the foul mouthed ones! The mod was KnightofRa and he was a regular visitor for awhile there, but he already had his own room. The Sloths were determined to get one of these magical moderators for themselves. So when the oh-so-nice Lazymuse dropped by and liked us we were very happy. :) When she adopted us we were thrilled to become owned. Sloth had graduated out of the wilds of the Greer rooms!

Thanks to KnightofRa and Lazymuse I become a mod - I was honored and pleased to be able to help out our community. And when the dreaded Real Life intruded on Lazymuse's Kong time, I was very, very happy to take on ownership and watch over our friendly online place. :)

3. Who was the first person who friended you on Kong (or who did you first friend)?

My first friend and fan was my son - Gunman123. And even that was weeks after we started playing. :) It usually takes awhile for me to friend people.

4. What are your top 3 favorite games on Kong?

Tri-achnid - because it is just so different! Pillage the Village - because who doesn't love throwing villagers into the air? And then, hmm... all the good puzzle games lumped together.

5. We all know being a mod is tough work. What is your best memory as a mod? Your worst?

My best is every time someone says, "Wow, Sloth is great!" Because, since I have been around helping to set the tone from chat room with no chat to what we have today, I am just really proud of our community. My worst goes hand in hand with that - any time one of our regulars disrupts chat I am very, very disappointed. I am very possessive of Sloth - even when I am not there I often leave myself logged on a guest and read back through the chat. I want to know everything that happens there! (lol - as I saw on someone's profile the other day.. "Big moderator is watching you!")

6. If you could change just ONE thing about Kongregate, what would it be?

I wish there was a better way to get people to the room that matches them. Like when you looked at the room list it would tell you more about the room's personality - there are rooms that love to debate, or who are looser on the language, or with role playing, rooms that are mostly younger or mostly older players, etc etc. Sloth is very ... uptight really in a lot of ways - and it's not the ideal room for everyone. People should explore more!

7. When you are not on Kong (Which is when??), what are some of your favorite hobbies?

I am always on Kong! (but when I am there and not paying attention I can be found with my family, or reading (usually fantasy or theology,) or watching science fiction TV.

8. What is an interesting thing about you not many people know?

Well, a lot of people don't seem to know that I am female. ;) But aside from that...while it's not what I do now, my degree and supposed profession is Theater Direction and Design. Especially lighting design.

9. If you could have 1 super power (any super power), what would it be, and why?

My daughter is very into Pokemon - there are some that have the attack power of "charm" Wish I had that... to, you know, balance out the snark. ;)

10. If you could change any ONE thing about this world, what would it be?

I would make everyone understand "Show up, and be nice." i.e Take your responsibilities seriously, and be there for other people.

And there you have it! Stay tuned for more exciting interviews with some of the legendary characters who make up Sloth!
